Kendal 2nds 53 Macclesfield 3rds 0

Kendal were watched by there biggest crowd of the season and were eager to put on a show against a Macclesfield side who made Kendal work for victory on there home patch. The game started very slowly and Kendal struggled to get any rhythm in the game at all. Macc were happy to keep things tight in the forwards and Kendal wanted ball for the back line. Chances went a begging early on the final pass just not finding the man or basic mistakes letting Macc off the hook. Eventually Rob Quarry and Ian Ross injected some much needed impetuous into the game and from a central scrum quarry drove forward and the ball was moved to Gillard for the opening score 5.0. Kendal now picked there game up and were managing to expose Macc out wide after good forward play. Rob Quarry was next to cross again the scrum proving a fruitful means for Kendal over the last few weeks 10.0. Troughton was linking forward and back play well though with the strong winds passing was never easy. Troughton was next too cross linking with Quarry at the back of a scrum to dive over Boardley converting 17.0. Macc were able to clear their lines on several occasions using the strong wind to there advantage but with strong runs back from deep Kendal were always applying pressure. Quarry crossed again from close range after Wharton and Ross made good yards Boardley converted 24.0. Kendal new if they could keep the ball for enough phases then they would be able to outpace a tiring Macc outfit. Good runs from Bowles Martindale and Tomlinson were not finished off with the usual precision expected. Kendal though did manage 1 more score before half time Troughton scampering under the posts for a converted try 31.0. Andy Quarry replaced  K Tomlinson at the interval and M Bamber replaced debutant J Eater on the wing. The second half began as the first with little urgency from either side eventually Kendal started to piece some plays together allowing Gillard to score his second try converted from wide by Boardley 38.0. Mikilini and Ashley created several chances out wide but Kendal were wasteful at the death. Kendal's line out was functioning well and after a break by Bowles, Wharton crossed the line in the corner 43.0. Boardley was gaining in confidence against a tiring Macc team and he jinked his way through for a great solo try missing his own conversion 48.0. Coulter was now switched to his accustomed scrum half position and Mikilini made way for Hill. Coulter was rewarded with the final try waltzing through a very tired defence to bring the scoring to 53 points. Though the points have been flowing for Kendal coach Nutter was quick to point out chances must be taken when they present themselves, with second place Leigh to come in 2 weeks there was still plenty to work on and not get carried away he added.
