Kendal 2nds 50 Preston GH 4th's 0

Preston to there credit managed to muster 11 men against all the odds to give Kendal a game, Kendal supplied Hoppers with 4 others to make this a 15 man game. The game started in slow fashion with Hoppers showing they were not at Mint Bridge just for the sake of it. Kendal needed to get some drive going forward and eventually got things going with good forward play from both Quarry's and Hattam. Again the wind was proving to be a hindrance to the style of rugby Kendal wished to play. Hattam opened the scoring for Kendal cutting a great line to outpace the defence and his support 5.0. A bit like a taxi the next scores were quick in coming firstly Martindale who enjoyed galloping in the open space all afternoon crossed for Boardley to convert quickly followed by Ross again after the ball was kept alive well for an unconverted try 17.0. Hoppers though stuck to there task and made things difficult for this youthful Kendal side. At times Kendal were over confident and forgot some of the basics needed to win ball and gain territory. they did however settle down towards the end of the first half and put together some good rugby in particular the lively Boardley and some great angled running by Murray and Moss. Potter was found wanting for pace on one wing though the ball was kept alive and moved across the field to allow Mikilini to go over, Boardley converting for a halftime score of 24.0.
Much of the same was required in the second half and Kendal started applying the pressure early on good forward play allowed prop A Quarry to score a converted try 31.0. Potter made way for Bowman and Nicholson for Tomlinson Snr. Kendal for all the domination and the lions share of the ball could not score the points. Moss was becoming a nuisance to the Hoppers back line popping up all over. Hattam made another good break and after the ball was recycled Murray outpaced the cover to score a deserved try Bowman slotted the extras 38.0. Hoppers were still up for the fight and had several ventures close to Kendal's line though the defence stood strong. Hoppers were tiring and Kendal started to utilise the pace of Postlethwaite wide out good handling allowed the lively winger to spurt between the uprights Bowman adding the extras 45.0. Good handling from the backline again allowed Postlethwaite to show a clean pair of heels to all those around him and score an unconverted try in the corner for a final score of Kendal 50 v Hoppers 0. Next week sees Kendal lock horns with there closest rivals for the title Leigh 2s a much harder test than the last few weeks awaits.
