ROCHDALE 2nd's (7) – KENDAL 2nd's (37)

On a first visit to Rochdale in the Miller Homes League an early penalty miss from Kendal was followed by a good try from the hosts when their big lock broke through to dot down between the uprights.  Despite this being against the run of play Kendal continued to dominate territory and possession and excellent hands from Gracie and an offload from Moss show Gillard streak in down the wing, the conversion attempt hitting the post.  Tenatious defence from Wharton and Gracie again with a superb tackle saw Moss on a barn storming run shrugging off two tacklers on the way to the line, converted by Boardley.

Kendal’s line out with both props Cartmel and Quarry keeping Wood up well all afternoon impressed and won numerous turnovers.  A Boardley penalty followed before Quarry showed good strength to ground the ball after a driving line out.  A controlled wheel and off load from Ross saw the splendid Troughton, on as sub, to snipe through for a score.  Kendal were now magnificent with their handling and a move involving Moss off loading to Michilini and onto Howse saw Troughton again involved feeding Howse  to score with the movement of the game.

An excellent run from Holmes kept alive by Chatham and Gracie, saw Troughton show a real turn of foot to go over for his brace.  Rochdale were then denied a consolation score when Boow put in a thundering tackle when they threatened to break out from deep.  Kendal finished the game on the attack with Tomlinson’s bullocking run up the middle almost finished off by Ashleys slight of hand before the referee blew the whistle to single the end of an excellent game.
