Kendal 2nds 67 Leigh 3rds 0

Kendal were keen to put in a big performance against Leigh3Rd's as there 2Nd's are just behind in The Miller Homes League with games in hand. Kendal were up for the fight all afternoon and would not be seen to be out muscled anywhere on the park.

Rob Quarry set the tone early doors running in 2 tries from the back of a scrum with little too stop him Boardley converting 1 12.0. Kendal again kept up the pressure and Boardley was only too happy to float over 2 penalties for infringements by the Leigh side 18.0. It was looking like the Quarry show as the big number 8 ran in a further 2 tries from close range after forwards and backs combined well to get Kendal within scoring range Boardley converting both 32.0. Also busy was Physio Nutter tending to both sets of players in what was proving a bruising encounter. Howse along with a Leigh prop were rested for 10 minutes by the referee for a minor bust up each been shown yellow. This got Kendal going and there was a definite change in the tempo from here on in. Leigh did though try to play rugby but Kendal again refused to let them over the gain line HT 32.0.

Kendal were told to keep up the same tempo after the break Howse was replaced by Ross in the back row and Gillard made way for Bamber on the wing. Nicholson was lively around the park in both defence and attack with the centre partnership of Michilini and Ashley holding firm in the face of some brutal attacking play by Leigh. Wharton was next too cross a live wire in attack all afternoon making yards time and again broke through to score a converted try 39.0. Coulter was next to cross sniping round the fringe to out fox the defence to score under the posts for a converted try 46.0. Next saw probably the best try of the game Moss recycling ball in his own 22 supported by Murray allowing Boardley to race clear before good hands kept the ball alive and the supporting Tomlinson to flop over for another converted try 53.0. Murray was full of running all afternoon and almost again combining with moss down the left, Kendal stayed deep in Leigh territory though and Nicholson was rewarded for a hard afternoons graft with a converted try 60.0. Hill came onto the wing for a cameo appearance and capped it off with a try thanks to great work by Wharton who unselfishly passed to hill to swallow dive into the corner allowing Boardley to convert 67.0 and a personnel tally of 22 points for the Kendal kicker. "In all a satisfactory afternoons display with areas still to work on with some difficult games to come" was how skipper Cartmel described things.
