Macclesfield 5 Kendal 33
Kendal were again held up for the second away trip due to bad traffic and dodgey directions. Kendal were determined to put right last weeks performance the first 20 minutes were a dour affair with both sets of forwards battling it out for supremacy in the middle of the park. indeed the only real moment of significance was the ball hitting the over head power cables.
Eventually Kendal sprang too life after a Macclesfield attack was broken up Luke Laddel kicked up field and gathered his own kick and slumped in the corner. Boardley adding the extras. The forward battle continued with Liam Nicholson Rocky Ross and Kent Gimley superb in the tackle. The next score was similar to the last after forcing Macc back the ball was moved wide and a kick through was again collected by Laddel who went over in the corner again Boardley converted. Michelini was next on the score sheet after pressure from the forwards a poor kick out by Macc enabled Kendal to move it down the back line and score a well worked try conversion missed. 19.0 H/T score.
The second half started the same as the first Kendal struggling to find rhythm and Macc slowing and spoiling much ball. Macc were next on the score sheet for an unconverted try. Kendal sent on Gillard for Large on the wing. Macc tried mixing it with the forwards and targeted Boardley who stood up to the challenge well constantly putting down his firery opposite number. Mike Capstick was next too lift the game showing all his experience taking a quick 22 drop out too himself and galloping 30 metres before a trade mark pass inside was eventually knocked on. This sparked better rugby from Kendal with Tomlinson making a similar break and also the impressive Nicholson. Laddel opened up the home defence who fed Ashley and the Gillard who was just held up short. Macc were now loosing there heads and had 2 players sin binned for offences on Nicholson and the rampant Quarry. The next score was by Coulter a series of penalties and lineouts lead to more ill discipline allowing Coulter to go quickly and slide in between the sticks. Boardley converting 26.5. Kendal had the final say after more pressure Ashley seized on poor Macc backs play and kicked through showing great close ball control near the line too spurt over under pressure. Boardley converted Kendal finished the stronger and were looking to extend through Boardley when the referee blew up. Score 33.5. |
