New Brighton 21 Kendal 28
Kendal arrived at New Brighton at a location that has not been a happy hunting ground in the past. Things never got off to the best of starts with Murray and Ashley late arriving mainly due to map reading skills?
Never the less the game started on time and for the opening 25 minutes Kendal were in rampant mood. Gary Holmes setting the tone with an early 30m dash. Kendal showed there dominance upfront early on and from a driving maul hooker Kent Kendall burrowed over Boardley missing the conversion. However he made amends with a penalty soon afterwards 8.0. End to end rugby then followed with both sides making last ditch tackles to deny the opposition. New Brighton hit back with a converted try for an 8.7 scoreline. Boardley missed a couple of penalty attempts before Warren Tilsley broke through from good turnover ball and raced clear for a 40m try converted by Boardley. With the seconds ticking New Brighton tapped quickly and strode through a sleepy Kendal defence for a 15.14 half time scoreline.
Changes were made at the break with the 2 late arrivals Murray and Ashley coming on to replace Tilsley and Kendall. Nicholson reverted to his preffered role on the flank and again led by example with 1 tremendous hit on his opposite number. Kendal were playing as well now as at any point in the season backs and forwards mixing rolls and were to be denied 2 scores for forward passes by Boardley and Holmes. The next score was not long in coming Dan Bowles back from injury showing great pace and power from a yard out too score conversion missed. Kendal's line was now dominating the game with Capstick and Wharton making yards and scrum half Hill linking well with forwards and backs. Ashley and Murray were extremely solid throughout in the centres. Another driving maul brought more points this time for Ross to guide his way in for an unconverted try. Boardley got a penalty soon afterwards to put Kendal 2 scores clear at 28.14. New Brighton though had the last word with a well worked final try and conversion with the last move of the game to slightly flatter the score with a 28.21 scoreline.
