Ron Hayes Youth Welfare Officer, Kendal R.U.F.C
The welfare of young people in Rugby Union is a major priority and as such, RFU clubs have been asked to ensure that if young people are members that a Youth Welfare Officer is appointed. I presently hold the position of Youth Welfare Officer and can be contacted on

if you as a parent/guardian or club member have an issue with regard to the welfare of any young person.
Each rugby club must:
- Appoint a Welfare Officer who will act as the first point of contact for concerns about the welfare of young people.
- Have a child protection policy in place which must include all the core elements of the RFU recommended Policies and Procedures for the Welfare of Young People in the sport of Rugby Union.
- Ensure that all officers of the club are aware of their responsibility in this area and that the club respond to any indication of poor practice or abuse in the line with RFU Policy.
- Implement a policy of Best Practice for all adults working with young people.
- Ensure that all relevant members who have regular supervisory contact with children or a management responsibility for those working with young people undertake on Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.
- Identify a disciplinary panel which where necessary will manage cases of poor practice as identified by the RFU Child Protection Officer.
I am pleased to report that all of the above have been implemented by Kendal R.U.F.C and I would like to thank the Board of Directors, Chris Hayton Director of Rugby and all the coaching staff of youth rugby for their assistance in the implementation of these Polices
All club members must adhere to the relevant RFU Codes of Conduct:
- Coaches Codes
- Players Code of Conduct
- Spectators Code of Conduct
- Parents Code of Conduct
- Officials Code of Conduct
All of the above are posted in the clubhouse.
Spectators
In Rugby Union players are impressionable and their behaviour will often reflect that of the adults around them. At Kendal we welcome spectators on our touchlines who embrace the ethos of the game as one of FUN, ENJOYMENT and SKILL DEVELOPMENT.
In Rugby Union spectators are encouraged to:
- Act as positive role modals to all young players.
- Be familiar with, and abide by, the RFU Codes of Conduct in relation to verbal and emotional abuse.
- Respect the Rugby Club policy with regard to spectator behaviour.
Finally please remember these young people play for FUN and the Love Of The Game.
Let us all encourage them to achieve that by adopting a positive attitude at all times
Have a good season
